Is the High Protein, Low Carb Diet the Best Option to Lose Weight?

The high protein, low carb diet is becoming a popular option when it comes to losing weight. Although this is a very effective dietary program, this may not be good to all people who want to eliminate fat in their body.

Many have tried this diet, but unfortunately, there were several adverse effects reported related to this. This has brought kidney problems, digestive disorders and bad breath to a number of people who have chosen this kind of diet.

Our body cannot function well if important vitamins and minerals are restrained from entering it. Even if you are on a diet, you still have to make sure that your body receives everything that it needs like fats, water and protein.

The high protein, low carb diet is not really the best option. Protein is so important in our system for it is capable of generating amino acids in our body and it is, likewise, a big help in tissue and cell repair and regeneration. However, eating protein more than what your body needs can cause a significant increase in your weight and various health problems, such as heart, cholesterol and blood pressure problems.

Carbohydrates have different categories and it is somewhat very confusing. When we say our body needs carbohydrates for it to function well, it doesn’t mean that you can eat cakes, wafers, potatoes, white breads for all you want. You should be aware that there are carbohydrates that are low in GI (glycemic index) and this includes unrefined and unprocessed grains, white meat, organic foods, etc.

There is a good reason why you should refrain from eating carbohydrates when you want to lose weight, but you should not completely remove it from your diet. There are good sources of carbohydrates and they should be retained in your diet program. By sticking with low GI foods, not only will you have bigger chances of losing weight, but you will also save yourself from experiencing serious health problems.

If you can perfectly combine exercise and low GI diet, you will surely lose weight and have a healthy body. The reduction of sugar in your body can also help improve your skin and your digestive system.

Having seen the adverse effects of the high protein, low carb diet, you might be having second thoughts by now and choose the low GI diet instead.

  1. Raises my hand on being one of the ones that have tried and failed at the low carb diet. It’s very frustrating. I really feel the best way to go is with having meats and vegetables plus some fruit but within moderation and exercised sprinkled on top.
